School Experience

The Primary School Experience Week and completion of the activities, tasks and reflective log throughout the duration are intended to help provide you with the experience you need in order to ascertain whether teaching is the career for you. In addition, you should begin to learn about how teachers can work effectively with pupils and how pupils learn best.

More specifically the Primary School placement should help you to:

  • Develop skills by observing work and interactions in a classroom and the implications of these for effective teaching;
  • Observe styles of teaching and general teaching arrangements in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 classrooms;
  • Find out about the expectations for primary pupils’ learning in the primary phase
  • Understand the ethos and culture of a primary school.
  • Begin to think about issues relating to pupils progression and transition from EYFS to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.
